{"id":7711,"date":"2026-01-09T09:16:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T08:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.icatmar.cat\/?p=7711"},"modified":"2026-01-09T09:54:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T08:54:38","slug":"the-report-on-marine-litter-along-the-catalan-coastline-2024-is-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.icatmar.cat\/en\/the-report-on-marine-litter-along-the-catalan-coastline-2024-is-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"The report on marine litter along the Catalan coastline 2024 is now available"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plastic is the most common residual material along the Catalan coastline, with greater presence on the central coast.<\/h3>\n\n<p>We have published a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icatmar.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/ICATMAR-Marine-litter-2024.pdf\">report on marine litter accidentally collected by the trawling fleet along the Catalan coastline during 2024<\/a>. This work is part of the ongoing fisheries monitoring program carried out by the Fisheries Advisory Service of ICATMAR and helps us better understand the presence and distribution of marine litter on the seabed of the Catalan coast.<\/p>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The characterization and analysis of the waste are carried out following the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fishingforlitter.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Fishing for Litter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> strategy, which provides key information on its typology and distribution.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>The report\u2019s conclusions show that marine litter continues to represent a small fraction of the total trawl fishing catches (around 2%), but it is present in all the areas and depths analyzed.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Plastic is the most frequent material, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an average of 5.08 kg\/km\u00b2 between 2020 and 2024.
